Choosing the Best Workout for You

Choosing the Best Workout for You, Choosing a Good Fitness Coach, Choosing a Beachbody Coach, Beachbody on Demand Free Trial, Get Shakeology Samples, Vegan Shakeology Samples, Free Online Coaching

It's a popular question that I hear all the time, "Arnel, which workout should I do?"

It may become daunting in the very beginning, I know....because it was for me as well, but if I were to give you one piece of advice as far as trying to find the best workout FOR YOU, and your goals, this is what it would be:

"Ask someone who will be completely honest with you, and is not focused on just selling what they have to offer"

As a Full Time Online Beachbody Coach for 6 years now, I give recommendations all the time. The people who come to me for the most part know that I am a Beachbody Coach, and I let them know right off the bat that my suggestions are based on my experience as a Beachbody Coach, and what I've done.

I say this because I want to be truthful with my customers. I want to be honest and let them know that yes, there are plenty of other programs and workouts out there, but what I offer is specifically Beachbody Workout related.

Most of the people that I am surrounded by are athletes and individuals who participate in extreme and endurance sports. And although my Beachbody workouts are great for these people, some of them need more specific training to help them towards a more targeted goal.

When I started my fitness journey back in 2010, I started a program called P90X. I chose this program because I wanted to get more lean, lose some weight, and gain my strength back. A few months later, my brother introduced me to obstacle course racing, and the only training that I had was from P90X and another program called Insanity. These two programs helped me become a better runner, and built my foundation as an athlete and awarded me with a handful of podium finishes throughout my ocr career.

(Vegan? Click here)

These days, if you are interested in getting on the podium and racing for big money, the training would have to go far beyond just P90X and Insanity. Both programs are great to be incorporated, but the programs alone are not specific to the sport itself in terms of olympic and elite podium finishes. Yes, it's perfect for integration, but not specific. Again, this depends on your goals.

Are you an elite athlete, or training to be in the Olympics? Or are you a beginner to advanced competitor? If you are the latter, than yes, P90X and other Beachbody programs such as Insanity Asylum will definitely be a benefit to your training.

It's great to see some of the top athletes in the world, and learn what they do to train, but it's ridiculous to try to do what they are doing when you are not in peak condition as they are, don't fool yourself.

The best thing to do is first build your foundation. Build up your strength and cardio, and most importantly, learn proper form. I've seen some really good athletes with very poor form. They can run fast, but their exercise game is scary. Before you do a rope climb, make sure that you can do a pull up. Before you do sand bag carries, make sure that you know how to properly pick up weights and put them down. It's about the learning basics, and having patience. Every athlete had to build a solid foundation before they started specific training towards their discipline.

This also goes for anything whether you want to be a dancer, hiker, rock climber, or just want to lose weight. Find a Coach or person who will give you honest advice and will help you build a foundation, and then take it from there.

Beachbody Workouts are not the only workouts out there, just like Crossfit is not the only program that is forging elite fitness. Be cautious when someone tells you that they have the best program, it's a lie because the best program is only the truth if it's the best program for you.

It may take some time to find out which workout would be best for you, and that's ok. As long as you are being active, having fun, and being safe, then you are headed in the right direction. Always make sure that you are listening to your body and leave your ego at home =)

Being a Beachbody Coach doesn't mean that I only do beachbody workouts. I love fitness in general and I'm willing to try anything, and I have. I have done Crossfit, Martial Arts, Running, Yoga etc. And they've all been great! I am also an adventure filmmaker/videographer and I travel all over the world and film events in some of the most extreme conditions. I run after some of the fastest and strongest athletes in the world, and people always ask me, what type of workouts do you do, and I don't hesitate at all, because for 6 years now, it's been Beachbody Workouts religiously. I don't say this because I market these products as my business, I honestly say this because the programs do work, and I'm proof of that, along with the hundreds of testimonials from my customers which now surpass over 3,000 globally.

Insanity Cardio Abs Workout

Insanity Cardio Abs Workout - Insanity Challenge Group - Insanity Workout Tampa
Watch Video Below

I recently decided to do a second round of the Insanity Challenge, something that I haven't done in a couple years. With Beachbody coming out with workouts that you can do in 25 to 30 minutes, I started to get used to the short workouts, and I wanted to challenge myself to see if I can still hang with Shaun T for more than 30 minutes. And I just have to say that he is royally kicking my ass LOL.

Don't get me wrong, I can go to the gym and workout for a couple hours, but to do Insanity for two hours, "forget about it" =). I am currently on week 4 of month 1, and staying strong. I definitely feel the burn, but I also am feeling like I haven't in awhile, I just missed doing Insanity.

I used Beachbody Energize Pre-Workout on the days I need that extra push

I am so EXCITED for Shaun T's newest program, Insanity MAX 30. I don't really want to go into what the program is all about, but you can read my blog post on this here.

What is an Insanity MAX 30 Test Group?

The test group will be geared towards helping participants learn how to turn health and fitness into a lifestyle, get the BEST results, learn about clean eating, whilst meeting like-minded people just like you! Insanity Max Interval Sports Training

Ok, this SHI-take was bananas YO! Today I did Insanity Max Interval Sports Training at Pensacola Fit Club, and let me just tell you, the ENERGY was absolutely amazing!!

This workout in particular is not included in the standard Insanity Workout program, it is an additional set of workouts which include: Max Interval Sports Training (not to sound redundant), and Insane Abs. It's basically for people who have acquired the elite level of fitness, and would like to incorporate it into their second month of the program, or to just add into their existing hybrid workouts. The exercises can also be modified to suit all fitness levels.

I'm not gonna lie, I got beat down! But who doesn't when they are doing Insanity. If anyone says that Insanity is easy, then they aren't pushing themselves hard enough, because this is the real deal! Are you ready?? Let's get on with the workout!

The WARM UP consisted of Jump Ropes (without a rope), Switch Heels, Switch Heels Higher, Jump Rope Side/Side, and some Cross Jacks.

Cross Jacks - I know, it looks like I'm Salsa Dancing, but trust me, I don't have that much rhythm =)
Insanity Cross Jacks

10 second break before the knee pulls. Thanks Shaun T, I appreciate the 10 seconds =)

Knee Pulls (high, medium, low) I wish I can say AMAZE-BALLS, but I'm not going to!
I pretended that I was a Rock Star, but in all reality, my legs were toast!
Insanity Knee Pulls

After the warm up, we get a quick water break, and go right into the first Sports Number:

- Jab Cross 2/2
- Jab Cross 4/4
- Jab Cross 8/8
- Single Uppercut
- Uppercut 2/2

Water Break

Our second Sports Number is:
FOOTBALL
- Football Drills (Fast feet to low plank, move side to side - 8 count)
- Tricep Pulses
- Tackle (kinda like a hop squat moving sideways 4 times, then back the other way, and pretending that you are hugging a tree - now I know you're confused)
- Offensive Line Elbow (similar to above, but now you're hitting your elbow up to your hand, then moving side to side)

This is my "I thought this was T25" look! =) #NeverGiveUp

Water Break

Sports Number Three:
BASKETBALL
- 3 Point Shot/Run  (I got this)
- Guard Drills  (I can feel my legs)
- Suicide Drills  (I'm losing my legs)
- Basketball Dribble  (I can't feel my legs)

Suicide Drills - Here I am trying to keep up with a girl, my sis/law #Fail =)

Now we go into the fourth Sports Number:

10 Ways to Stay Fit While Traveling the World

Coach Arnel - Exploration Peak Park

I decided to post a blog on this topic "10 Ways to Stay Fit While Traveling the World" because a lot of my friends are always asking me how I stay in shape while I travel, and how I train for upcoming Spartan Races or other obstacle race events while I am on the road. The questions are always the same, "how do you eat healthy", "how can you stay consistent with your workouts", "where do you workout" etc.

Currently, I've been living out of my Patagonia backpack for almost 4 months now, maybe more! One night I was setting up for the usual Tuesday night workout at 813 Fit Club in downtown Tampa, and something just told me that I should "JUST GO". I packed up everything, and I was off about a week later =). Since then, I have been traveling every week to various obstacle race events, visiting friends and family, and backpacking to amazing Wonders of the World in between. It's been absolutely amazing!

coach arnel banawa

So let's get down to business shall we!

1. BRING YOUR FITNESS WITH YOU - I am proud to say that I am a Full-Time Beachbody Coach, and I have all of my workouts including P90X, Insanity, Hybrid Schedules, and Asylum with me at all times (on my macbook). You can't bring your gym or your Crossfit box with you when you travel, but you can always bring your workouts with you! I highly recommend that you bring some Fitness DVD's, or even sign up for the Spartan Race Daily WOD's via email.

2. EXPLORE ON FOOT OR BICYCLE - You're traveling and on vacation because you want to see something different right? Well, the best way to do that is by walking or riding a bike through the city, or taking a trek or hike to the ruins. This is a great way to see things that you wouldn't normally see if you were on a bus, plus you are getting in some great cardio!

3. USE THE HOTEL GYM, OR LOCAL GYM - To be honest, I rarely stay at hotels, but when I do, I take full advantage of the gym facilities. When I stay at a hostel or a friends place, I try to go to the nearest gym to get my workout in, but most of the time I just use the space in front of me and start killing some Insanity! =) Most gyms have 3-7 day free trial passes, so most of the time, you can workout for free. At most, you will pay a $5-$10 for a day pass. Remember, the outdoor parks and running trails are always a great place to workout too, and guess what, it's free!

Total Gym Nicaragua

4. TAKE THE STAIRS - I know what you're saying "I'm on vacation!!!" Well, you're absolutely right, but is that a valid reason not to take care of your health and well-being? The way that I see it, if you want to have more vacations, and freedom to travel as much as you want, you can only do that if you maintain a healthy lifestyle. So take the stairs and quit crying! =)

5. PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL FITNESS EVENTS - You could always find events to participate in such as local 5K's or obstacle race events. There are local boot camps, free fit clubs (check out meetup.com), and donation-based yoga classes. You name it, there's always something for everyone. Your best bet is to either research it online before you leave, or just ask a local once you are at your destination.

Equinox Toronto

6. TAKE A BIKE TOUR - Bike tours are a great way to see the sights. You can rent a bike and explore on your own, or take a tour. I normally take a city tour first, because let's face it, the locals know a lot more than you do, so why not learn from them, get some tips, then explore on your own after that. Oh, and If you ever mention taking a segway tour, I WILL CUT YOU! =) ha ha

7. STAY COMMITTED TO YOUR NUTRITION - Now this is probably the hardest part. It is almost impossible to stick to this 100%, but that doesn't mean that it is okay to slack either. I take my travel-friendly Shakeology packets with me when I travel, so I know that I will always be getting my daily dose of dense nutrition. If you focus on the sight-seeing activities, and not so much the food activities, then you will have a better chance at eating healthier. Pack healthy snacks in your pack while you are out exploring, this will help you from starving and eating something that you will regret later. Also, part of traveling is also about learning about culture, eating local foods etc. That is absolutely fine, but you don't have to do it every day and every meal, come on, we're not kids here =). Be strong! It does help if you travel with an accountability partner, someone who knows about you and your goals, and actually cares about them. Let's get rid of that "I'm on vacation" mentality, and you will be just as healthy and fit as when you started your travel, maybe even better!

8. PLAN A CHEAT DAY - What??!! If you plan a day of gluttony, you will have something to look forward too, and that will help you stay on track on the other days. This could be your last day of your vacation, or if you are doing long-term travel, it could be once a week, and not for a whole day, but just for one meal. I don't really like promoting cheat days, or cheat meals, but I also know that we are all human, so plan it if you need one, and it will help you stay on track!

9. PACE YOURSELF - Sometimes we get so excited when we are on vacation, and that is absolutely fine, I know that I'm guilty of it =). When you have that GO, GO, GO hustle mentality, it can create even more stress on you, and the people around you, that's not what you are traveling or on vacation for. So just slow down, PACE YOURSELF, relax, enjoy the view, and you will find yourself making better choices on your meals and activities =).

Volcano Boarding the Cerro Negro - Watch the video!

10. THINK ADVENTURE, NOT VACATION - When you think about adventure, what pops into your mind? Adventure is all about activity, excitement, exploring the unknown, and having the time of your life. When you shift from vacation mode to adventure mode, everything changes!

So I hope this helps you when you plan your next family excursion, or independent travel adventure. And I hope to bump into you soon, maybe at a gym in the Greek Islands! =)
