How I Get My Shakeology in the Philippines

I finally got my shipment of Shakeology and other Beachbody products here in the Philippines!

Most of you know that I've been based in the Philippines since January 2019, and so it can be a challenge getting my Beachbody Products over here since the company is not officially opened to the asian market at this time. Currently the company Beachbody, my affiliate business partner is only in the following markets: USA, US Trust Territories, UK, and Canada.

As far as being able to purchase Beachbody Workouts, I believe that the company can ship to foreign markets, but cannot currently ship any supplements such as Shakeology.

SO HOW DO I GET MY SHAKEOLOGY IN THE PHILIPPINES?

It's simple! When I go back and forth from the USA, I take some of my products along with me. I normally take about 2 months worth of Shakeology as well as some protein bars and recovery drinks. I actually do not use a lot of supplements, so my main one that I've been using since 2011 is Shakeology.

When I do run out of my supply while still in Asia, I will contact some of my friends or family who plan to come to the Philippines, and get my order sent to them in the USA so that they can bring my shipment when they arrive here in the Philippines. Of course I give them some samples as well just to thank them for helping me out. Another way for Beachbody to send out to international borders is through military mail. So if you are in the military and have a military address (APO and FPO addresses), the company Beachbody will accommodate.

I've been getting a lot of questions about Beachbody on Demand being available internationally, especially in the Philippines. Beachbody on Demand is currently only available in the USA, US Trust Territories, UK, and Canada, BUT HERE IS HOW YOU CAN GET IT:

If you know anyone, friends or relatives in the USA, Canada, or the UK, they can easily create an account for you so that you can use the BOD digital product in your country. Once they create the account for you using their resident information, they can simply then send you the login details so that you can then use the digital workout platform. The next step is now you have to send them the payment ha ha! Most countries have remittance services, so sending money online from person to person anywhere around the world is so easy. Paypal, Venmo, Cash App, Crypto, Facebook, and Western Union are all ways that you can send online payments fast and easy.

How much does Beachbody on Demand Digital cost? 

Firstly, for those of you who don't know what BOD is all about, it's a digital workout platform that includes thousands of online streaming workouts from the top Beachbody Trainers around the world. You will be able to stream the workouts on any device including your smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop, and even stream to your home TV.

There are many payment options, from quarterly to annually. If you are international where Beachbody is not currently available, I highly recommend the annual plan which is less then a month or two gym membership, $99 USD or in philippines pesos, about 5,000 php.

It doesn't matter which country you are in, if you are looking for some good savings, getting a Beachbody on Demand Membership and working out from home will be your best bet. I actually was thinking about getting an Anytime Fitness Membership here in the Philippines and found out that it was actually a lot more than it costs in the USA, ridiculous. 

Now you can join a lot of other local gyms that do not quite have all the facilities that come with a Anytime Fitness Membership like A/C, and safe/quality/up-to-date equipment, but it's really up to you. I've been to gyms in some of the local barangay's in the Philippines and they worked fine, but also ask yourself: "do you actually know what you are doing?, do you have a program especially f you are new to working out?, and do you have a support system and people who will keep you motivated?" All of these factors come to play depending on how serious you are in reaching your goals.

Allianz Conquer Challenge and Ninja OCR Series - Philippines

I had the opportunity to film a World OCR affiliated event in Filinvest City Alabang, Philippines a few days ago, and had an absolute blast. The event hosted 3 race distances: 100 meter Ninja Course, 400 meter Team Ninja Course, and a 5K obstacle course. I would have to say that this organization is one of the reasons why the Philippines, if not Asia for that matter, is on the map for obstacle course racing. The POSF, Pilipinas Obstacle Sports Federation which is a branch of  World OCR based in Switzerland, this organization has been working hard in helping the sport of OCR gain momentum to possibly hit the main stage. And being part of the SEA Games, they are well on their way to paving the way for what some might say, the Olympics.


Being part of the official media commission of World OCR, I am excited to be part of this growth and helping in any way that I can. Although the sport of obstacle course racing has been around for awhile now, it has still not received mainstream recognition, and this is one of the reasons why I developed, started, and committed to my OCRTUBE media project, which is to help the sport grow worldwide through creative media channels. The sport is growing super fast in Asia, and that is because the organizations here are so passionate about it, and I am just glad to be right in the middle of all the excitement.

Beachbody Performance Line Named Official Sports Nutrition Supplement of IRONMAN

I was traveling through Europe working on my cause-related OCRTUBE.com media project when I heard the news about the Beachbody Performance Line being named the sports nutrition supplement of the IRONMAN North American Series.

So what does this actually mean right? I know it sounds amazing, and everyone knows what IRONMAN is all about, but is this really a big deal?

Well, the company Beachbody is one of the world's leading providers of extreme fitness programs and nutrition products, the company announced on May 19th, 2016 that they have signed an agreement for their Beachbody Performance Line to become the Official Sports Nutrition Supplement of the IRONMAN North American Series in the beginning of 2016.

I'm sure that there is a huge decision that had to be made by the IRONMAN organization to ensure the integrity and reputation for the prestigious endurance race series, and for me, that's huge for Beachbody, and it says a lot about the quality of the nutrition line.

Just to let you know, the Beachbody Performance Nutrition Line was developed by Harvard-trained scientists led by Nima Alamdari, PhD, who is an exercise physiology and nutrition scientist and Beachbody's Executive Director of Scientific Affairs, I know...sounds important ha ha =)

Many people enjoy eating high-protein foods because they believe that protein will make them grow big and strong. Is that what you think? Let's take a look at what protein really does.

Unlike carbohydrates and fats which contain only carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen, protein also contains nitrogen and other elements essential for life. Proteins are made up of several amino acids which are building blocks that are hooked together. Although there are many different amino acids (at least 20), only 9 are called essential amino acids because the body cannot make them; they must be obtained from the diet. That's why we must eat protein to take in the essential amino acids.

How much protein should I eat?
Most people consume about 150 to 200 grams of protein each day which is more than enough. Protein needs are determined by the following factors: age, body weight, and activity level.

Many athletes think that if they eat more protein their muscles will get larger, but this is false. Excess calories from protein can be converted to fat and stored. Not only that, the liver and the kidneys are put under a lot of strain when processing large quantities of protein.

How much protein do I need?
Suppose you weight 175 pounds and are doing both extreme strength and endurance training. Your protein needs would be 0.6 to 0.8 grams per pound of body weight. Check out the examples and how to calculate your protein needs below:




Protein Requirements for Strength Training:
Research has shown that the protein needs of strength athletes and endurance athletes are quite similar. The calculations are the same as the above.

The excess protein in an athlete's diet, not required by the body, is often around 100 grams per day. Because muscle is 20% protein, the additional 100 grams of protein per day should result in a gain of 500 grams of muscle per day, or about 1 pound of muscle per day.

Concerns with Very High Protein Intakes:
- Increases the work load of the kidneys and in the extreme cases result in kidney failure. In some individuals this practice has resulted in hypertension.
- Can be dehydrating especially during endurance events if additional fluids are not consumed.
- High intake of free amino acids may cause diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
- Creates imbalances of the essential amino acids.

Firstly, I would like to start this post by letting my readers know that I absolutely love Shakeology, but there are plentiful ways to make this premium superfoods shake taste even better. This post is also for people who have tried Shakeology in the past, and for some reason did not enjoy the taste.

Before we begin, I would like to say that for some people, Shakeology may have to grow on you. If you are not keen on healthy eating, and you are fairly new to eating clean, you may find Shakeology to be different to your taste palate. There is nothing wrong with this. Sometimes it may take some time for your body to adjust to healthier ingredients, and that is absolutely normal. Rome was not built in a day! I have to admit that before I started my fitness journey, I consumed junk and processed foods for years, but fortunately my body accepted Shakeology almost immediately, and that's maybe because I used one of the following ways to "make Shakeology taste better". If you are allergic to some ingredients, please make sure to consult your physician before consuming Shakeology. There are different Shakeology flavors, and each flavor has different ingredients. I hope this post may help some of you who are going through this dilemma with Shakeology. Just remember, Shakeology was formulated to help you with your health and nutrition goals. It's not for everyone, but you never know unless you try it. It may change your life, like it has for me and hundreds of other people.

How to Make Shakeology Taste Better:

1. GET THE SHAKEOLOGY SAMPLER - It all begins with choosing the flavor that you like best. It is not wise to try Shakeology with a flavor that you do not enjoy, so if you've never tried Shakeology before, and you do not want to purchase a whole month supply just yet, then getting the Shakeology Sampler Pack would be your best option. Simple try the different flavors in the sampler pack, and choose which you like best. 2.  USE A BLENDER - One of the most common mistakes that new Shakeology drinkers do is they fail to not use a blender, especially when trying Shakeology for the very first time. Granted that using a blender is not required, but it does make Shakeology taste better. There's a huge difference between just shaking it up in a blender bottle or stirring it with a spoon, blending is the way to go! There are over 70+ superfoods in Shakeology, so making sure that everything is blended and mixed together properly is key to successful Shakeology tasting. When I am on the go, I find myself just using the shaker cup, and although it doesn't taste as good, I'm "ok" with it just as long as I am getting the benefits.

3.  USE A RECIPE - Shakeology is very versatile. Although you do not need a recipe to enjoy the benefits of Shakeology, it does make it taste so much better. If you are trying Shakeology for the first time, it is highly recommended that you use a recipe. With hundreds of recipes out there, it is very difficult to get tired of drinking Shakeology. There are low calorie to high calorie recipes all depending on what your daily caloric intake is. I recommend trying as many recipes as you can until you find about 3-5 that you really enjoy. Yes, this may take some time, but I promise you that it will be worth it. I've found about 5 delicious recipes that I really like, but I always go back to my original favorite which is Chocolate Shakeology (vegan or regular) with Peanut Butter, Banana, and Unsweetened Almond Milk, blended with Ice. If I use it as a main meal, I may add a little more protein powder depending on my workout and activities of the day. I prefer using Optimum Nutrition or Vega Sport Protein Powder with my Shakeology. And PB2 (low fat powdered peanut butter) blends so well with Shakeology =)

4.  ALMOND MILK - I really love Almond Milk! But you could use other alternatives such as rice milk, hemp milk, cashew milk, dairy milk, or coconut milk. If you are watching your caloric intake, most of these alternatives also have unsweetened, low fat and low sugar content varieties. I have found that using these alternatives rather than using water makes Shakeology taste so much better. It gives it more flavor and gives it a creamier texture. Yup, acts like a salad, but tastes like a dessert!

5.  USE HALF SERVING - For some people, a whole serving of Shakeology is too much for them. So another way to customize Shakeology to fill your demands is to use only half or 3/4 of a serving. Remember, it's all about finding what's best for you. Shakeology is very versatile, and can be customized to suit your taste buds, you just have to experiment with it.

6.  GIVE IT TIME - As I mentioned before, if your body is not used to eating clean whole foods, then your body may need some time to adjust to Shakeology. Healthy eating does not happen overnight, so give it some time to take in the superfoods. It doesn't taste like a cheeseburger for a reason, because it isn't =). It may take a month or more to get used to Shakeology as it detoxifies your body.

- 1/2 tsp cinnamon

- 2 frozen bananas

- 2tsp goji berry and mixed seed mix
- 2 cups granola


What You Do:

Add Shakeology, banana, milk, and most of the fruit to the blender, saving some for later. Blend until smooth.

Add the vanilla extract, seed mix, remaining fruit and all but a little of the granola, and blend on a very low setting/pulse for about 30 seconds.

Serve in a bowl or mason jar, and sprinkle over the remaining granola, any berries, and/or any of the seed mix you have left. Just enjoy!

I wanted to post a super quick blog about this because I've been VAGABONDING since the month of March this year, and I've seen so many travelers miss out on so many photo and video opportunities just because they were just too tired to take a few steps up a mountain, or walk just around the corner because they were out of breath.

Come on guys, you've traveled half way around the world, and you are just minutes from taking a shot of a lifetime, or that amazing waterfall that you've been talking about for two years! Now I do understand that some people are in some unfortunate situations way beyond their control, but let's just say that this post has little to do with, if not anything to do with them. This is about people who are very willing and capable, but they decided to not take the extra steps because of the decisions that they made prior to their trip.

It's a short list, but here goes:

1.  ENERGY - Studies show that when you live a healthy and fit lifestyle, you will look and feel more energized. Granted that you continue your lifestyle whilst you are traveling, you will have the natural energy needed to wake up and start your day without coffee or those toxic energy drinks.

2.  ENDURANCE - When you combine cardio with your strength workouts, your endurance level will go through the roof. Anyone can carry a backpack and a camera up a mountain, but to do it for hours or even days, it takes a lot of endurance. Don't get me wrong, strength is very important, and it all depends on what type activity you are doing. To fully enjoy a long trek or an all day tour, your endurance level will play a key role on how you feel. And we all know that if we feel great, "and not out of breath", we will just have more fun! Adding cardio to your strength workouts will help you make it to the end of the trek to get that money shot that you've been talking about for two years =).

3.  STRENGTH - So here it is! I know that the guys reading this were waiting for this, and you too girls =). Having strength can be the key to either making a trip, or breaking a trip. I've seen people bail out of a mountain hike because they could not lift themselves up over boulders. I've seen people stay on the beach because they said that their arms are not strong enough to island hop with a kayak. I've seen people use horse, donkeys...you name it because their legs weren't strong enough. Having strength will make you feel more accomplished during your travels because you made it to the top of the mountain, it was you that kayaked to 3 amazing islands, and you would have the photos and videos to prove it. Don't just do cardio, make sure that you are doing some weight training, it will go a long way when you finally go on that trip or trek of a lifetime.

4.  HEALTHY - This to me is really the most important. I've seen so many people workout hard, a lot of times way harder than me, then they go and eat a combo at McDonalds. What you eat and your nutrition is everything. If your insides look as good as your outside, trust me....you will have the energy, endurance, strength, and you will be happy. Who wants to do an Elephant Trek in Thailand with someone who is not enjoying themselves just because they either drank too much the night before or they ate a crap ton of junk food for the past week. Eating healthy can get tricky while you are traveling, but trust me, it's not impossible.


5.  CONSISTENCY - And for the grand finale! We can be strong, have energy and endurance, eat healthy, but can we be consistent? The more consistent that we are with all of the above, the better experience you will have during your travels. Traveling should not be an excuse to not workout, and not eat healthy, it should be the every reason why you travel. I've been to a lot of places, I've seen a lot of things, and I've seen a lot of people suffer while they travel. It doesn't have to be that way. Like anything, if you stay consistent big things will come out of it. And this my friends, is the secret sauce!

Why I Am Not 100% Paleo

Let's face it, the caveman back in the days had limited sources. They ate what they could to survive and fed their families based on what they gathered from a day of hunting, hence the name "Hunter Gatherer".  These days, hunting for food is going to the local market or grocery store and picking things off of a shelf. No need to kill anything, no need to run after anything, just place things in a shopping cart - go home, and eat!

A lot of things have changed since the Paleolithic Times. Every day people are finding new food sources, and with that comes the discovery of amazing nutrients, and unfortunately not so healthy benefits. In today's day and age, people are now less active because technology has made things easier for us, which makes some of us just plain lazy. Obesity has become an epidemic in many parts of the world. So in many ways, the caveman had a great life. They had to work hard to survive, but they lived healthy and fit lifestyles. This is one of the reasons why Paleo is such a great way to live because it's simple, and it works.

But I am not 100% Paleo. And to be honest, I have never met anyone who is. A lot of people claim that they are, but those very same people also tell me that they had a cheat day or a cheat meal and loved it....well that's not 100% Paleo, and that's ok! =) I absolutely love the whole idea behind eating whole foods, cutting out sugar and grains, and exercising regularly. Why do you think the caveman were such great athletes? It's because of what they fueled their bodies with.

I have a lot of friends who use the Primal Blueprint, which is like a not so strict Paleo Plan. I try to keep things simple and follow the Paleo Plan as close as I can, and then I drink my Shakeology. And you're like, well that's not PALEO! Well, that's what makes me not 100% Paleo =). The way that I look at it, if the caveman had Shakeology and access to all the 70+ Superfoods that make this shake so healthy, I guarantee you that they would've consumed it. If you want to do what the caveman did back in the paleolithic times, then go hunt for your own food, run after game instead of going to whole foods, cook everything outside, and wear close to nothing in the winter. The world is always evolving, and food sources are always being discovered. It's ok to eat and discover new things just as long as it has great benefits, and you are exercising daily. It's all about being educated and making good choices.

There is not one way of eating, like there is not one form of elite fitness. To become successful in life, health, and business (if that's what you're into) it's about keeping your mind open. Feeding your body with the fuel that it needs to survive and thrive. Yes, Paleo works, but it's not the only thing that will give you amazing results. I am a peanut butter enthusiast, so I love anything peanut butter! I love Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (Yikes), and I really love Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches!

Other than trying to keep my carb intake to a minimum (grains), I also moderate my sugar intake as well, it's just not good for you people! So when I start craving things like that, I improvise =)

This morning I was craving a big fat Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich, but I did not give in (trust me, it was TOUGH!!!), so instead I made a delicious healthy PB&J alternative with Vanilla Shakeology.

PB&J Shakeology

INGREDIENTS:
- 1 scoop (or packet) of Vanilla Shakeology
- 1/2 cup  unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 cup  water
- 1/2 cup  red grapes
- 2 tsp.     all natural peanut butter (ok, I might have added more peanut butter) ha ha

Blend with with ice until smooth! Enjoy =)

I'm going to be completely honest with you, I really dislike running in the heat. And during the really hot summer months, I do a lot of tread mill work unless I am some place where there is less humidity or up in the mountains. I have family who live out west in the Las Vegas area, and yes, it can get really hot out there, but there is relatively no humidity. When I first started running there, it was pretty weird because I was hot, but I wasn't sweating as bad as I normally do, and that's when I found out how humidity can really play a huge role in training.

Humidity is a huge factor to runners because the higher the moisture content in the air, the hotter it feels, especially when you are running. Let's say that it's about 88 degrees outside which is not so bad right, but if you have 70% humidity, that 88 degrees can feel like over 100 degrees! Now that's a SWEAT FEST!

When your body heats up, it gets dehydrated, and when that happens, your body then goes into "Survival Mode", which means that your body is basically trying to keep you alive lol. I don't want to go into specifics about maintaining blood flow to your essential organs, so let's just keep it simple:

When it's really hot outside, it's better to be safe. It's not worth the risks. Use these tips to help you make better decisions when it's a super hot running day:

TIPS FOR RUNNING IN HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS: "Survival Mode"

- Stay inside and use a tread mill
- Stay hydrated and try to run in shaded areas as much as possible
- Take as many breaks as needed
- Don't worry about timing your run
- Run by how you feel instead of keeping pace
- Look for warning signs such as dizziness, headaches, tingly skin, fatigue, nausea etc. If you feel any of those signs, call it quits or take a break and only proceed when you are feeling much better.
- Always listen to your body
- You can always do a great Insanity Workout with me too =)


I did a 5 miler today and it was one of those days! I felt my body temperature rise a few times and I had to slow my pace down. I did bring hydration with me, and although there were plenty of times I wanted to pick up the pace, I simply had to just put my ego aside and play it safe. It was a great run!

iPhone 6 - The Fitness App Revolution

I have been waiting for the iPhone 6 to come out, and I just got word that it may be available on or before September 9th, 2014.

According to Forbes: iPhone 6 to "Revolutionize Sports and Fitness" with it's new Health App. Fitness Apps have been gaining more and more popularity these days, and I honestly have to say "it's about time". From athletes, runners, gym rats, P90X'ers to yogis, you can find almost any health and fitness app for anything active these days. So with all of these apps available how will you know which app is best for you?

Just like anything in life, it's about trial and error. Testing the waters is what needs to be done. Firstly, narrow it down to the activity that you are focused on, then go for the highest rated apps. There are a lot of free fitness apps out there, but for just a couple bucks more, you can get something 200X better without those annoying pop up ads!

With the new iPhone 6 coming out, I think it's really cool that they plan to have their new health app already integrated into the phone. Apple has already been advertising it with their ad "strength".  So be on the lookout for the new iPhone 6, or not =).....if you're an Android enthusiast. It doesn't matter if you have an Andriod or an iPhone, both smartphones have health and fitness apps to help you get into shape!
