P90X3 at the Park

P90X3 at the Park - P90X3 Triometrics - P90X on Demand - P90X3 Challenge Group - Alafia State Park Workout

What? I thought that P90X workouts were just for in-home use? Ha ha, NOPE! Especially now with Beachbody on Demand, you can actually take P90X workouts anywhere......ANYTIME! I actually prefer using the workout sheets which I put in my iBooks app on my iPhone, and it works perfect for me when I am doing the strength-based (weight-lifting) workouts. I can do this anywhere around the world whether I am at home, the gym, or just like yesterday at the park.

P90X3 at the Park - P90X3 Triometrics - P90X on Demand - P90X3 Challenge Group - Alafia State Park Workout

So I decided to go to Alafia State Park in Lithia, FL yesterday to do some P90X3, Triometrics to be exact. This specific workout gets me every single time! When you watch my video below, you will probably think it looks easy, but trust me, it is far from easy. The X3 Triometrics workout is like Plyometrics. The workout consists of jumping, squats, and just a lot of leg, stability, and core work. There are about 15 exercise movements and each movement is done with 3 levels of intensity, and if you do the movements correctly, your legs will be BURNING all day =). You can check out the Triometrics Movement List from a previous blog post here.

P90X Marathon Training - Week 5

P90X Marathon Training - P90X and Running - Gout and Running
Week 5 in the books....barely!

Well I had a set back on Week 5 =(. I was able to get some runs in, but out of nowhere, my GOUT attacked me like a ninja! I haven't had a gout attack in almost 2 years, at least a serious one, and it really hurts like heck.

I don't want to bore you with facts, but if you are not familiar with what gout is, you can just go here (wikipedia) and find out more about this terrible thing that is hindering me from running and doing my leg workouts.

Gout Sucks!
(This photo depicts the pain rising from gout)

As you can see with my Nike+ Running Marathon Training for week 5, I didn't get all of my mileage in:

Week 5
P90X Marathon Training - P90X and Running - Gout and Running

Although I was not able to get all of my runs in, I was still able to do some of my P90X workouts, and of course eat healthy. I picked up some fresh cherries and some tart cherry juice to reduce the toxicity of the uric acid in my body. It won't help me recover overnight, but it can help speed up the process and decrease the uric acid levels. But, just not fast enough....grrrr =)

We will all have set backs, and there is just nothing you can do about it, so rather than just dwelling on the negative, it's best to focus on other activities such as reading, clean eating, and watching Netflix ha ha =) It is pretty difficult for me, not being able to run, especially when I see all my friends posting their running mileage on Facebook etc. but hey, I have to be happy for them, because I will be recovered and running with them soon!

This is when my gout really started to flare up, I popped about 4 Advils to get this 9 miler done!

Day 7, Week 5
P90X Marathon Training - P90X and Running - Gout and Running
I felt a little pain on Day 7, but it wasn't that bad, so I popped a few advils and I was able to get a 16 miler in.

And that was pretty much my week. I did get some runs in, but it was pretty tough and did cause some pain for me. Week 6 will most likely be more recovery, but I'll keep you guys posted =)

Oh and although week 5 was a set back, the good news is that I was able to complete 158 running miles for the month of June, and I hopefully plan to shoot for 200 for the month of July. 50-60 miles per week leading up to my first marathon is my goal, but I would love to hit 100 in a week sometime, but it's one step at a time =)

P90X Marathon Training - My First 3 Weeks!

P90X Marathon Training - Training for the Boston Marathon - Boston Qualified

Someone is trying to #BQ (get Boston Qualified) and that person is me! I am a bit nervous, but as I mentioned in a previous post, I am very determined.

I will be blogging about my weekly progress on my P90X Marathon Training and my hopeful road to the Boston Marathon. If you are wondering why I am incorporating P90X into my training, it is merely because I am also an OCR (obstacle course racing) athlete and I plan to continue participating in various ocr events during my marathon training. OCR is not just about running, it involves overall strength and endurance, so I must stay on point with my upper body strength to remain competitive, at least in my age group, so I use P90X to help maintain strength.

I have already started my P90X Marathon Training, and I am now at the end of my 3rd week of my 16 week program. I am currently using the Nike+ Marathon Training Program (Intermediate Schedule). So far everything is doing great, and I feel pretty strong. Today I did a 10 miler in Downtown Pensacola, FL and it was hot as "you know what", but I had to get it done, so I just went at a pretty slow easy pace as recommended on the nike+ training schedule. I have rest day on Sunday (last day of week 3), but I plan to do an upper body P90X3 workout at a moderate intensity level, but no running.

(Intermediate)

Here was my running schedule for the first 3 weeks:

Week Two

Week Three

I also have some other good news!! I just registered for my first marathon, the Walt Disney World Marathon in January 2016, so this is when I will see how I do. I would like to try to qualify for Boston during the Disney Marathon, but my research is telling me to just focus on finishing my first marathon, and then try to improve my speed and possibly qualify for Boston on my 2nd or 3rd marathon. We shall see =). Most of the research that I have done have been from very credible marathoners, so I just might have to suck it up and listen to them. If I qualify for Boston during my first marathon, then it will probably be a miracle, and last time I checked, miracles do happen =).

2016 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Registration Confirmation

So when I finish my 16 week P90X Marathon Program, I will still have about 3 more months until the Disney Marathon in January 2016, so I may go right into another program by Hal Higdon. I will most likely not be able to finish the whole program, so I may start after the 2nd month of his program as most of his coach programs are 18 weeks. I'll figure it out =) Hal Higdon is a 2:21 marathoner, and has coached hundreds of people, so I am excited to use his program after my completion from the Nike+ Marathon Program. I will still continue to use P90X with Hal Higdon's Program, but will have to discontinue all supplementary workouts 2-3 weeks prior to my first marathon as recommended.

Day 3, Week 3, P90X Marathon Training
(P90X Chest and Back)

Day 6, Week 6, P90X Marathon Training
(10 mile run + P90X - X Stretch)

Again, I am nervous, but also quite excited to be training for my first marathon, but I am even more excited to share my journey with you. If you have any tips or advice for me, please feel free to comment below, or connect with me on Facebook here. I also have a FREE Fitness Support Group if you would like to workout with me, we can keep each other accountable and motivated, so feel free to add me on Facebook!

Atlas Race Kansas City - 2015

Atlas Race Kansas City 2015 - Clinton State Park
OCR Legend Hobie Call and I - Atlas Race Kansas City - 2015

This was my first Atlas Race that I have ever attended and filmed for my OCRTUBE.com project. It was fairly small but very well-organized. Hosted at Clinton State Park, it's the very same place where the Ironman is organized, so it was the perfect venue for an obstacle course race.

Watch the Full Race Video Below!

Atlas Race Kansas City 2015 - Clinton State Park - Hobie Call

I ended up doing some primitive camping around the lake while I was there, and although the weather wasn't that great with rain and thunderstorms, I made the best of it, and I really don't mind roughing it =). I even did some P90X Yoga and some early runs in the morning, it was great!

I think the best way to explain what an Atlas Race is, I would say that it's a cross between a Spartan Race and a Warrior Dash. For me, there is never too many OCR (obstacle course racing) companies out there, and I for one love helping each and every one of them succeed, and that's why I started my OCRTUBE.com project which is focused on helping the sport of OCR grow by creating "NO BS" race videos, as well as a free athlete community to help network people together in a niche sport. Eventually I plan to work with a handful of select charities to help give back as well. OCRTUBE.com is basically a hobby of mine, I am a Full Time Beachbody Coach, and it is my coaching business that fully funds my OCR passion and projects. It's been a blessing to become quite the Digital Nomad and just travel, film, and race, I'm definitely not complaining =)

P90X3 - The Challenge Workout

P90X3 The Challenge Workout - P90X3 Workout Sheets
P90X3 - The Challenge

This workout reminds me of the P90X One on One Series workout called the "Upper Body Massacre" which is nothing but push ups and pull ups for about an hour, it really is a murderous upper body workout! P90X3 The Challenge Workout is very similar, but it is only for 30 minutes, as if that isn't enough. There are only 8 moves (plus a burnout round) in this workout, which doesn't seem like much, but once you get into it, you soon find out that it surely is a BEAST. Before the workout, you have to set some numbers up for yourself like how many push ups and pull ups you want to do, and the goal is to try to maintain that number for the duration of the 30 minute workout. For example: 10-20 pull ups, and 15-30 push ups. Yes, most people can do this on their own without the workout DVD, but it's a heck of a lot better workout if you can follow and keep up with the guys on the video, yeah....it's about trying to stay with their pace! We tend to take more breaks without these DVD's, but it's a true test of strength and endurance if you can do all of the movements, with less breaks, within that 30 minute time period. This isn't your grandma's old workout with Richard Simmons, this is the real deal, so don't knock it until you've tried it.

"This a great workout for Obstacle Course Racing, Spartan Race, Tough Mudder Training or anyone interested in gaining more strength and endurance"

P90X3 The Challenge Workout - P90X3 Workout Sheets - Tough Mudder Training

I would not recommend P90X3 to anyone who is at a beginner fitness level, the program is geared primarily for super-intermediate to advanced, I don't care what anyone else tells you. Yes, there are modifications, but with the X3 movements, you will get the best results without using modifications. I seriously think that if anyone modifies a workout more than 50% of the time, then the workout is not for them. If this is you, then I would recommend that you try an easier program (such as P90) that suits your level of fitness to where you could do the movements un-modified, and get a full range of motion, and complete the workout with less breaks. The less modifications that you use, the better results you will get. And I'm not saying that you won't get any results from modifying, but how much is too much? Most people would agree that they feel more accomplished when they can complete a workout without using modifications. And if a workout is too hard, most people begin to feel discouraged, and they either quit, or get injured. Don't be one of those statistics! You have goals, you just need the right program, and the right coach to help you. So be smart, and choose a program that's right for you, forget about the media, forget about people telling you what cool workout you should be doing. Be safe, and if you need assistance with finding the perfect program for you, then feel free to message me, I would be happy to assist!

P90X3 The Challenge Workout - P90X3 Workout Sheets

Here are the movements for P90X3 - The Challenge:

Equipement Needed:
- Pull Up Bar
- Power Stands (optional, but highly recommended)

WARM UP

ROUND 1: (2x)
- Wide Pull Up
- Standard Push Up

ROUND 2: (2x)
- Chin Up
- Military Push Up

ROUND 3: (2x)
- Close Grip Pull Up
- Wide Push Up

ROUND 4: (2X)
- Vaulter Pull Up
- Staggered Push Ups

BURNOUT
Do one Pull Up (any kind) and 3 Push Ups (any kind) for as many rounds as possible for 2 1/2 minutes.

COOL DOWN

Like I said, it doesn't seem like much on paper, but once you're in the workout, you will soon find out that you are in for a big surprise. Make sure to set big numbers for yourself because when you set low numbers, it won't be a challenge, and that's what this workout is all about, it's all about the CHALLENGE, so challenge yourself! That's when change happens.
