5 Things People Think I Am, But I'm NOT

5 Things People Think I Am But I'm Not, Beachbody Coach Life, Becoming a Beachbody Coach, Beachbody Coach Stories, Arnel Banawa, Coach Life, Struggles of a Beachbody Coach
Bagan, Myanmar (Burma) - 2015

When I first signed up on Facebook, I was hesitant on sharing my personal life with anyone. I've always been someone who kept to myself, and I could describe myself as an "analyzer" and a "skeptic". I really don't know where that came from, but I believe that it's just a natural instinct for US humans,  "to question things". Maybe if I can just be upfront with you, and tell you that I am a true, extreme INTROVERT, that might better explain things.

Through the years, I've opened up to my friends more and more (and even family), and although it seems like it comes easy for me, it definitely isn't, "openness" actually terrifies me. As life moves on though, responsibilities take over and many people including myself are forced to think out of the box, and do things that are way out of our comfort zones. Change was always scary for me, but as soon as my daughter was born in 1996, my life was forever changed. Let me explain a little.

WHAT CHANGED?
I began driving slower (yes, I am that annoying slow driver, but defensive driving kept my daughter safe), I began to set goals, financial stability became a priority, and more importantly, I began to open up. Why is "opening up" such a BIG DEAL? Well, it isn't a "big deal" for some people, but for me it meant being vulnerable. It meant more opportunity for rejection and negativity, and I hated that. Common or not, I know that I'm not the only one who felt this way either, I guess I just needed someone to show me the POSITIVE sides to the coin, the bigger picture if you will.

Change is scary but I've learned to accept it and adapt. I've had a BAZILLION jobs through my life, mostly in the hospitality industry. At one point, I had one job at a local casino in Tampa, FL and a nightlife marketing business which I built up from ZERO to a 6 figure income business. Once I made a decision to leave the nightlife business (for reasons to better myself as a father) I was forced to work up to 3 jobs at 100 hours per week just to make ends meet. I did that for what seemed like ETERNITY.

I SAID TO MYSELF
Is this really what LIFE is all about? Is happiness and true "TIME FREEDOM" only for the lucky ones?

Hardships is what everyone goes through when they do not want to settle at being so-called "average". And in all honesty, I was comfortable with my life for many of my single, childless years, but once my Princess came into this world, I knew that things had to change. Oh, the single part hasn't changed yet =).

I hit rock-bottom multiple times in the recent years, and I could've easily quit, in fact I did a few times. There were times when I just wanted to go away for good. Yes, I just wanted to go sometimes, why? Because it was just easier. Pretty crazy right, yup...but that's what I went through, and most people don't know about that, again this is why I still feel a little uncomfortable with Facebook sharing. I mean, how much is too much.

Fast forward to PRESENT DAY. I've met some amazing people who have showed me the POSITIVE sides to the coin, and although it may seem like I am living the dream (to some people) I am still working hard everyday to ensure the success and freedom for my family. It's just a never-ending journey, but most definitely something that I look forward too, day in and day out.

WHAT AND WHO AM I TODAY?
I am an humble Entrepreneur who is constantly learning. I am a MINIMALIST, and prefer to own less than more. I run a fitness-related internet company affiliated with an amazing lifestyle brand. I truly believe that TRAVEL is the best education and THERAPY in the world. I started a cause-related media project to raise awareness for charity. But most of all, I am HAPPY. Monetary things (money) means very little to me, but I have a huge understanding on how it can affect our lives, and how important it is in order to grow as a nation, global community, as well as, how it can create a better future for my family.

5 Things People Think I Am But I'm Not, Beachbody Coach Life, Becoming a Beachbody Coach, Beachbody Coach Stories, Arnel Banawa, Coach Life, Struggles of a Beachbody Coach

SO WHAT ARE THE 5 THINGS THAT MOST PEOPLE THINK I AM, but I'm not?

1.  I AM RICH - Nope, I am a hard-working father just trying to provide for my daughter and my family. I do not take short cuts, and prefer to give more than I make. Does this make me rich? It depends on what your definition of RICH is. I would say that I am rich in happiness, and I would love to meet more people who share the same views.

2.  I AM FIT - For some reason, people think that I am a fitness freak. I am far from that, and by no means is that my goal. I was introduced to obstacle racing by my brother Fermin after finishing multiple rounds of P90X, and I ran competitive for a few years until I accumulated some minor injures and unfortunately found out that my GOUT flare ups were caused mostly by my extreme training methods, so I had to step  down, put my ego aside, and just focus on being the healthiest that I could be. Although I was so upset that I could not race like I did in the past, something GREAT came out of it, and that is the creation of my OCRTUBE media project where I can still feel like I am part of the obstacle course racing community, whilst giving back to the community and making an impact in other people's lives. You see, everything happens for a reason.

3.  I AM A BLOGGER OR FILM PROFESSIONAL - I am a terrible writer/blogger and avoid the lime-light as much as possible. But this is something that I actually force myself to do just to adapt to change, and ultimately learn more about myself. I may NEVER be as fluid as Amelia Boone, Brett Stewart, Rachelanne Gladden, or Margaret Schlachter when it comes to the art of telling stories, and WOW, they are all absolutely amazing, but we all have our strengths and our weaknesses, and I'm not afraid to share mine with anyone, I guess that makes me real?

I make short obstacle racing, fitness, and travel videos/blogs but I've never been to film school, and I'll have you know, that I am my VERY worst critic! But I've learned that it's truly all about believing in the message that you are trying to project, and I am very passionate about what I do. Am I trying to be the BEST blogger, or the BEST filmmaker, or the BEST Coach? Not at all, I am simply trying to "pay it forward" in the way that I know BEST, because that's what others have done for me. #Grateful

5 Things People Think I Am But I'm Not, Beachbody Coach Life, Becoming a Beachbody Coach, Beachbody Coach Stories, Arnel Banawa, Coach Life, Struggles of a Beachbody Coach

4.  I AM PERFECT - I have had many negative reactions with certain Facebook posts that I have shared. For example: "Why do you workout every day?" "Why are you bragging about your travel adventures?" "Why are you promoting Beachbody all the time?" And the list goes on. When people see my posts, they think that I am living the perfect life. I am always spending time with my family, I am traveling all over the world, and I workout anytime that I want because I have nothing better to do. BUT, here's the thing, I DO NOT LIVE A PERFECT LIFE. In fact, I work very hard at what I do, and it is NOT glamorous by any means. I mean I probably still work 100 hours a week, every week. When I am with my family, I still have to make time to work on my business, or else I will not be able to spend time with them. When I travel, there are tough challenges with racism (yes unfortunately, this still happens, it's pretty sad), filming 8 hours in some of the most remote mountains in the world to have your camera footage stolen. And having the freedom to workout everyday is not always a luxury because mentally I am not always there. I still go through life challenges, I still pay bills, things do not always go MY WAY, because I am a real person just like you. I do not live the PERFECT life, but I just make the BEST of it. For me, a simple life is the best life.

5.  I DO THE IMPOSSIBLE -  "I want to do what you do!!!" I get that all the time. In the back of my mind, I say, "no you don't!" =). What I do and how I live my life is definitely not for everyone. Growing up in a family where "entrepreneurism" was highly-praised over job employment, I learned a lot about being independent. My father went from POVERTY in the Philippines to building a successful restaurant empire. He was not college-educated and learned everything from sheer HARD WORK and street knowledge. So when people tell me that I want to do what you do, BUT I CAN NEVER SELL, OR TALK LIKE YOU DO (really), OR MAKE VIDEOS LIKE YOU, OR WORKOUT LIKE YOU etc. that's not true, because frankly, I never knew how to do any of that, and I'm still learning. What made me decide to learn, accept change, and adapt is because I found my WHY, my purpose if you will. Every successful person that I have met has been driven by their WHY. Once you find out what the most important thing or person in your life, and you combine that with your non-negotiable goal, than you too can do what you once thought was IMPOSSIBLE.

I am still under construction, and I always will be, and frankly, I'm okay with that.

6 Weeks of THE WORK - A New Workout Program from Celebrity Trainer Amoila Cesar

6 Weeks of THE WORK All You Need to Know, Beachbody THE WORK VIP Early Access, 6 Weeks of THE WORK Online Group, Beachbody on Demand Free Trial, Arnel Banawa, About Amoila Cesar, Beachbody Coach Arnel, Get Shakeology Samples

Are you ready for Beachbody's Newest Workout Program?

6 Weeks of THE WORK was developed by Celebrity Strength and Conditioning Coach Amoila Cesar, his story on how he got started into health and fitness is pretty inspiring. The company Beachbody, my business affiliate partner is so amazing at choosing the BEST trainers in the world. Everyone has a story, check out Amoila Cesars story:

I just found out that this new workout program is AVAILABLE NOW though what's called VIP Early Access. This basically means that it is available through purchase of a Digital Challenge Pack. If you are already a Beachbody on Demand member, it would cost you an VIP EARLY ACCESS fee of about $37.46 USD. The program "6 Weeks of THE WORK" will make its debut on Beachbody on Demand (to the non-early access members) on April 2020. If you are not worried about getting access to the workout program now, you can always wait until April 2020 when it finally gets added to the member library on Beachbody on Demand.

I will be starting the program in a few weeks and will be getting the VIP Early Access because my ass needs to work LOL. I've been currently doing sporadic workouts on Beachbody on Demand, and not any sort of workout structure, which I feel I need at this point. With all the traveling and projects that I've been doing, it's been an issue for me to stay on track, so having a strict program to follow with someone who really pushes you should do me the trick!

FYI, the workout program does have EXPLICIT LANGUAGE but it does offer a clean version. I think I'll be using the explicit version when the kids are not around, sometimes for me (and I can only speak for myself) I need someone to push me and yell at me, it's a motivator for me =).

So for some of you asking about what the program includes, here are some screen shots of what its all about and the different options to get started now.

GET STARTED NOW:

These are options if you are NEW TO BEACHBODY WORKOUTS

THE WORK equipment Add-Ons (get all the equipment you need) - click here!

This is what THE WORK includes:
-  36 Workouts, the workouts are designed to get you stronger, leaner and more agile. The workout is complete with digital components such as: Get Started Guide, Fit Test, Workout Calendar, and Nutrition Guides.

Equipment needed:
- Dumbbells (light to heavy), I'll be using a sandbag at first because I won't have any dumbbells (just moved into my new place in the Philippines). As always, use what you have and don't make any excuses just because you do not have all the equipment. Pick up some canned goods, a chair or a backpack...be creative and make it work. If you can find something to lift or push, use it!
- It says you also need resistance loops and strength slides (just work with what you have, but if you can get these, it will make your workouts more effective) Use the equipment add on link above.
- Chin up bar optional. I would definitely get a chin up bar, there are modifications for this, but the more you use a chin up bar, the more you will get better, and with that you will yield better results!

This is what I'll be using for the time being =)

Supplements:
Of course supplements are always optional. All I really use is my all natural superfood shake Shakeology, and I occasionally use the recovery drink which is so delicious. Supplements all depend on you, but if you wanted to get my advice, this is what I would recommend:

-  Shakeology (take your pick of flavors, there are vegan options as well) This is my go to only option because it's just like having a meal, a pre workout and post workout. Its very versatile and only made with all natural ingredients from all over the world. Unfortunately it's only available in the USA, UK and Canada at the moment of this post, and that's because of how high quality the ingredients are, it's just difficult to produce in high volume, but I hope to see it become global soon.

TRY BEFORE YOU COMMIT:

-  Recovery Drink, after doing an intense workout, most people don't realize how many calories and energy is lost, so replenishing this soon after a workout is important. This also helps with of course soreness. Sometimes if I do not have access to the recovery supplement, I drink chocolate milk. It's delicious but just not at all as nutritious as the BB recovery drink.
-  Pre Workout, I don't use this very often unless I am dreading my workout, and I need a boost. There are days we all feel lazy, and this just gives me a boost to get my workout done. I definitely feel better right after, but that spike really helps on those days I have no motivation, you guys feel me right? =) Don't have this, or can't get it right now, just make a peanut butter and banana sandwich (about an hour prior to your workout), I do this all the time and it helps with getting that little bit of energy I need to pull me through a workout.

LASTLY

I think support and accountability is the key to success with any workout program or regiment. Some people join gyms or attend group fitness classes which are always good options. But these people cannot be with you 24/7, so an online support group which is available 24/7 is the best way to go. I mean you can do both, because let's face it, the more motivation that you have, the better! There's nothing like having a bad day and posting how you feel in an online group, and then within seconds, you have random people messaging you with a million reasons why you need to get off your butt. I guess that is why I became a Coach over 8 years ago, it's because I was able to get some amazing results, and it was all because of the support system, for me, that's the secret of success! There's no magic pill, it's just all about hard work, commitment, and REAL PEOPLE by your side.

It's all about Fitness, Nutrition and Real People Support - No Short Cuts

It's a great way to SAVE MONEY and also earn some residuals. For some people like myself, I was able to create a full time income from online coaching which still baffles me today. If an INTROVERT like me can do it, I'm pretty sure you can too! =)

THE BOTTOM LINE:

So I decided to do this workout program because I need to get my butt in gear. I will be 49 years old this year - YIKES!!!, and I'm not getting any younger. I need a HARDCORE push, and this guy Amoila seems like the man for the job. My ideal workout seems to be a cross between P90X, CrossFit, and Running, so this will be right up my alley. If you're looking for an athletic based style workout, than this is for you. Join me, and let's kill it, or be killed together =)

10 Ways to Stay Fit While Traveling the World

Coach Arnel - Exploration Peak Park

I decided to post a blog on this topic "10 Ways to Stay Fit While Traveling the World" because a lot of my friends are always asking me how I stay in shape while I travel, and how I train for upcoming Spartan Races or other obstacle race events while I am on the road. The questions are always the same, "how do you eat healthy", "how can you stay consistent with your workouts", "where do you workout" etc.

Currently, I've been living out of my Patagonia backpack for almost 4 months now, maybe more! One night I was setting up for the usual Tuesday night workout at 813 Fit Club in downtown Tampa, and something just told me that I should "JUST GO". I packed up everything, and I was off about a week later =). Since then, I have been traveling every week to various obstacle race events, visiting friends and family, and backpacking to amazing Wonders of the World in between. It's been absolutely amazing!

coach arnel banawa

So let's get down to business shall we!

1. BRING YOUR FITNESS WITH YOU - I am proud to say that I am a Full-Time Beachbody Coach, and I have all of my workouts including P90X, Insanity, Hybrid Schedules, and Asylum with me at all times (on my macbook). You can't bring your gym or your Crossfit box with you when you travel, but you can always bring your workouts with you! I highly recommend that you bring some Fitness DVD's, or even sign up for the Spartan Race Daily WOD's via email.

2. EXPLORE ON FOOT OR BICYCLE - You're traveling and on vacation because you want to see something different right? Well, the best way to do that is by walking or riding a bike through the city, or taking a trek or hike to the ruins. This is a great way to see things that you wouldn't normally see if you were on a bus, plus you are getting in some great cardio!

3. USE THE HOTEL GYM, OR LOCAL GYM - To be honest, I rarely stay at hotels, but when I do, I take full advantage of the gym facilities. When I stay at a hostel or a friends place, I try to go to the nearest gym to get my workout in, but most of the time I just use the space in front of me and start killing some Insanity! =) Most gyms have 3-7 day free trial passes, so most of the time, you can workout for free. At most, you will pay a $5-$10 for a day pass. Remember, the outdoor parks and running trails are always a great place to workout too, and guess what, it's free!

Total Gym Nicaragua

4. TAKE THE STAIRS - I know what you're saying "I'm on vacation!!!" Well, you're absolutely right, but is that a valid reason not to take care of your health and well-being? The way that I see it, if you want to have more vacations, and freedom to travel as much as you want, you can only do that if you maintain a healthy lifestyle. So take the stairs and quit crying! =)

5. PARTICIPATE IN LOCAL FITNESS EVENTS - You could always find events to participate in such as local 5K's or obstacle race events. There are local boot camps, free fit clubs (check out meetup.com), and donation-based yoga classes. You name it, there's always something for everyone. Your best bet is to either research it online before you leave, or just ask a local once you are at your destination.

Equinox Toronto

6. TAKE A BIKE TOUR - Bike tours are a great way to see the sights. You can rent a bike and explore on your own, or take a tour. I normally take a city tour first, because let's face it, the locals know a lot more than you do, so why not learn from them, get some tips, then explore on your own after that. Oh, and If you ever mention taking a segway tour, I WILL CUT YOU! =) ha ha

7. STAY COMMITTED TO YOUR NUTRITION - Now this is probably the hardest part. It is almost impossible to stick to this 100%, but that doesn't mean that it is okay to slack either. I take my travel-friendly Shakeology packets with me when I travel, so I know that I will always be getting my daily dose of dense nutrition. If you focus on the sight-seeing activities, and not so much the food activities, then you will have a better chance at eating healthier. Pack healthy snacks in your pack while you are out exploring, this will help you from starving and eating something that you will regret later. Also, part of traveling is also about learning about culture, eating local foods etc. That is absolutely fine, but you don't have to do it every day and every meal, come on, we're not kids here =). Be strong! It does help if you travel with an accountability partner, someone who knows about you and your goals, and actually cares about them. Let's get rid of that "I'm on vacation" mentality, and you will be just as healthy and fit as when you started your travel, maybe even better!

8. PLAN A CHEAT DAY - What??!! If you plan a day of gluttony, you will have something to look forward too, and that will help you stay on track on the other days. This could be your last day of your vacation, or if you are doing long-term travel, it could be once a week, and not for a whole day, but just for one meal. I don't really like promoting cheat days, or cheat meals, but I also know that we are all human, so plan it if you need one, and it will help you stay on track!

9. PACE YOURSELF - Sometimes we get so excited when we are on vacation, and that is absolutely fine, I know that I'm guilty of it =). When you have that GO, GO, GO hustle mentality, it can create even more stress on you, and the people around you, that's not what you are traveling or on vacation for. So just slow down, PACE YOURSELF, relax, enjoy the view, and you will find yourself making better choices on your meals and activities =).

Volcano Boarding the Cerro Negro - Watch the video!

10. THINK ADVENTURE, NOT VACATION - When you think about adventure, what pops into your mind? Adventure is all about activity, excitement, exploring the unknown, and having the time of your life. When you shift from vacation mode to adventure mode, everything changes!

So I hope this helps you when you plan your next family excursion, or independent travel adventure. And I hope to bump into you soon, maybe at a gym in the Greek Islands! =)

How Beachbody Coaches are NOT selling you!

How Beachbody Coaches are NOT selling you - Become a Beachbody Coach

Okay, obviously I cannot speak for all Beachbody Coaches, but I can tell you how I operate my coaching business, as well as how my team works.

Before I start talking about how Beachbody Coaches are not trying to sell you, I have to mention to you that most coaches first started out as customers. And through consistency, hard work and dedication, they achieved success both physically, mentally, and financially. It's a lot different than someone who just graduated from college and found a job in sales and marketing. Think about it, most people who are in marketing and sales (or any industry because every company sells something) had to learn about their product or service that they are selling. They did not use the product or service before they starting sharing it with people, they were hired with a company, and slowly began learning how to market their product. Some of these people don't even believe in what they are doing!  If it puts food on their table, they will do what it takes to sell. This is why you see so many people who are depressed and miserable about their current job situation. It's pretty sad if you ask me (I've been there), but the cool thing is that you can change that. It doesn't have to be that way.

I have met so many athletes, specifically in the obstacle course racing arena who endorse certain supplements, and they claim that it has done wonders for them, and that they have been training with these products for "X" amount of years, and it's totally false. A lot of these athletes were already in peak condition way before they started endorsing some of these products, and most of these products weren't even around when they were just starting out. A company simply just offered to sponsor them, gave them free products and all they have to do is help promote the stuff. Is that really being a product of the product? Now that's "salesy" to me. They post promo codes and post all kinds of photos about how great these products are, even when they have only just started using the product. Now I'm not saying that the products are not good, heck I've tried all kinds of supplements from a lot of companies, but I would never say that they changed my life, and that I've been using them for years even though I haven't.

I am a Beachbody Coach because I believe in the products. I would never promote something that I have not done, or believe in. I have graduated from almost every fitness program line that the company offers. I have been drinking Shakeology and working out with Beachbody fitness workouts since 2010, so I know from experience that it works. I share my journey and lifestyle with people because that is how these products have transformed me. I am not getting paid to endorse anything, I am earning a living from simply being a product of the product. And for the record, I am not in THIS THING to make a quick buck (this is not a trend) or to get FREE stuff, it truly is my life. It's my passion.

Here are some examples of what people do everyday because they believe in what they do, and it's totally organic and raw, but they do not earn any income from it. Now I don't want you to think that it's all about money for me, BECAUSE IT ISN'T, but most people would agree that it just makes sense to make a living while doing something that you are passionate about? Is there anything wrong with that? I honestly do not think so. Below are some examples of how people are sharing their passions with others, which is a form of selling (word of mouth marketing) whether they know this or not.

"Oh man, I just finished my first Spartan Race, and it was totally awesome, you have to seriously do one!!"

I've done this many times because I love obstacle course racing and the community it provides. But the only people who are making a living from it is the company, not the athletes. Yes, some athletes are sponsored, but that's different. Spartan Race does not give a piece of the company to the athletes. The company earns all the profits while the athletes and participants continue to help build the dreams of Joe DeSena. Some elite athletes say they don't care about the money, but trust me they do, that's why they are running the races who offer PHAT paychecks for hitting the podium, otherwise why don't they just do a Tough Mudder, and time it themselves with no one watching them? We are humans, we are reward oriented, and elite athletes want to be rewarded for their hard work, as they should!

SO WHO'S SELLING WHO?

How Beachbody Coaches are NOT selling you - Become a Beachbody Coach

"Dang, I just saw the BEST movie ever, I highly recommend that you watch it!"

We've all done this! We have all watched an awesome movie and told people about it, it's just a natural thing to do, but again, we are selling through word-of-mouth marketing. If a person watches 5 movies per week (home or theater) then this person would have watched roughly 14,400 movies by the age of 60. That's a lot of movies, and guess what, all of the profits go to the production and entertainment companies, we movie watchers do not get a dime!

SO WHO'S SELLING WHO?

"I just took my girlfriend to this fancy restaurant, and the food was absolutely amazing, you have to take your wife there!"

Yup, I have done this too! If there is one thing that I love doing, it's restaurant-hopping, especially the fancy ones because I love fine dining. I went to Chef School =). But again, we fill our tummies up with all of these fine foods, and who reaps all the profits? The restauranteurs!

SO WHO'S SELLING WHO?

"I just went to the most amazing gym! They had a pool, a Crossfit den, group fitness classes, you name it, you have to check it out!"

Yup, been there too! I used to Crossfit and love it, and honestly, I still go to the gym. It's not that there is anything wrong with it, I actually would rather do my P90X workouts at the gym anyways. But here's the thing, the gym and box owners take all the profits, while you are doing all the selling (sharing your posts on Facebook about working out etc). You might think well, I go to the gym to workout, not to make money! Well, good for you, but guess what? I go to the gym and also make money =) If you go to the gym or box, then for the most part, it's part of your life. It makes you feel good right? Well imagine doing that, and making a living with it! It can happen, and you don't need a 6/7 figure investment.

SO WHO'S SELLING WHO?

How Beachbody Coaches are NOT selling you - Become a Beachbody Coach - P90X at the Gym

So as you can see, these are some pretty good examples of what we do every day. We are selling ALL DAY.....well, we're really just SHARING our experiences with people. And that is all I do as a Beachbody Coach, sharing my passion! Couples Yoga Workout

3 Week Yoga Retreat, Couples Yoga Workout, Beachbody on Demand, Free Yoga Workout Online, Arnel Banawa, Lagalag Mafia, Filipino Beachbody Coach, Beachbody Philippines

So my fiancé and I are almost done with our 2nd week of our Couples Yoga Program. We are doing a 3 week program called the 3 Week Yoga retreat, and to be quite honest, it is taking us longer than three weeks, and here's why.

As a Full Time Beachbody Coach, I have always advised my customers to try to follow the program as close to the calendar as possible, I mean...that would be ideal. For most of us, including myself these days, my life has just been super crazy with a newborn, work travel, and just trying to find a routine in a new country. Are these excuses? In a way they are, but in a way they aren't. Yes, I used that word ha ha! =)

When Arlene and I decided to start a workout program together, we thought that Yoga would be perfect to start our journey together. Towards the end of 2018, I was doing a lot of travel for my OCRTUBE media project and it was very difficult to stick with anything, let alone working out. I did what I could like running and lifting weights here and there, but I completely lost having a routine.

Hiking is something that Arlene and I did a lot of before baby Penelope was born. Arlene has been a hiker for many years, conquering almost 30 mountains in the Philippines. I will be honest when I tell you that she can climb way better than I can, she is a complete BEAST when it comes to hiking tropical mountains. And then the baby came........

Baby Penelope was born on October 27th, 2018. And that is when both of us really slowed down on our active routines.

Long story short, we decided to do yoga because of the few months we didn't do much, i felt like i became less flexible and weaker in my core. Arlene has really never done a proper workout program of any kind before. She has only hiked and did a few other things like rowing, and I think that's about it. I didn't want for us to get into a crazy workout routine and get injured right off the bat, so that's why we felt that yoga would be a good starting place.

The 3 Week Yoga Retreat has been perfect for us, and although we have missed some days, we are doing every day of the program when we can. A couple days, we skipped out on the yoga and did some cardio workouts, but we would go back to where we left off with the yoga retreat. Now I know, it's not the best way to do a program, but this is just our way of getting our groove back.

We do feel that we are getting much better, and I definitely feel much stronger in my core and legs. I think that by doing this together, it is really helping us. We are very supportive towards one another, and never force anything upon each other. I think the key with starting a workout program with your partner is to first have a good understanding of each other, our weaknesses and our strengths, and to always respect each other during the process. Its ok to motivate and make jokes about each other being lazy, but as long as we take turns being the accountability partner, then things just find a way to get us back on the mat. There have been a few times where I just felt super lazy, but because of Arlene, and how she talks to me with her soft and non-forceful way, it reminds me of why we started this together in the first place.

Why did we decide to do this?

Well, there are a number of reasons other than getting back into shape. I think we just feel that being healthy and active for our daughters (Lauren and Penelope), it's just a good way to lead by example. We both love to travel, so by being fit and healthy, we know that this is key to our happiness during our travels. We also want to make sure that we are fit enough to be active with our kids as well, that is so important.

Anyways, we are almost done with our 2nd week, and then we just have another week to go. We do have plans to moving straight to another program together upon finishing our yoga, no doubt about that. And whether I like it or not, I think yoga will always have to be a priority at least once per week. I am actually working on the day when I can finally say that I love yoga....that will be the day where I can say that I've really made it. =)

My TOP 10 Travel Apps of All Time

Top 10 Travel Apps, Top Ten Travel Apps, Travel App Top Lists, Beachbody on Demand Free Trial, Uber Discount Code, Turo Discount Code, Airbnb Discount Code

A lot of my friends ask me how I plan, book, and organize my travel, even how I exercise while I'm on the go....so I decided instead of repeating myself a millions times, why not post a blog and just share the link...HA, brilliant! =)

I DO NOT USE TRAVEL AGENCIES OR BOOK TRAVEL PACKAGES

No way Jose! If you travel a lot, that can become very, BERRY expensive. I've learned many years ago about traveling independently, and with the advent of APPS, it's makes planning my travels so much easier.

YES, I HAVE AN IPHONE

But I'm pretty sure that the apps below will have Android versions, in fact as popular as they are, I want to say that I am positive that they do.

MY TOP TEN (not in order as pertaining to favorites)

1.  Airbnb - I rarely stay at hotels these days unless I get a super good deal. When I travel, I enjoy meeting other people, and staying with the locals. Hotels are very touristy, and that is something that I try to avoid. With Airbnb, I have the opportunity to stay with some amazing locals and save a lot of money.

2.  Uber - I like the fact that when I use Uber, I am supporting a regular person just like you and I with having their own business. I can also save up to 50% or more on my fares and have much better conversations with Uber drivers. Thank you Travis and Garrett for inventing this!

3.  Hostel World - When I travel, I really don't care about how fancy my accommodations are, so many times I stay at hostels. And don't think for a minute that hostels are gross, yes...there are some sketchy ones, but I've stayed at many boutique hostels that were way better than a 5 star hotel, seriously! With hostels, you have the option of dorm-style or private room accommodations, and you meet so many people from around the world. 50% of my friends I've met from hostels, so if you enjoy meeting travel-minded people, than this might be right up your alley. This app rates the hostels and provides reviews which makes it easy to choose the best accommodation for you.

4.  Kayak - I book 90% of my flights with this app. It's searches hundreds of sites to help you find the best deal. If you like saving time and being more productive like I do, than this app will save your life! This app also searches multiple sites for car rentals and hotels.

5.  Turo - This app is like the Airbnb for car rentals. You rent from verified car owners instead of corporations. The cars are comparable to what you would get from your typical car rental agency, but with less the hassle and hidden fees. What I like best about Turo is the selection of cars from economy all the way up to high end Tesla's and Maserati's. I don't own a car anymore so most of my cars I rent from Turo when I need a car for a hot date (lol JK). One time I rented from a Jamaican family and when I returned the car, they had Jerk Chicken prepared for me! When's the last time Hertz, Alamo, Enterprise or Dollar did that for you.....NEVER!

6.  Skyscanner - This is the app that I primarily use to book my air tickets all over Europe. I once bought a ticket from England to Norway for $15, yup....I'm not kidding!

7.  XE Currency - I use this app all the time! When you visit different countries, you have to be smart and understand their currency and the conversion rates, and this app can help you with that. If I didn't have this app, I would've probably been ripped off many times over. If you don't like getting ripped of, then get this app.

8.  iTranslate - Ok, I'm embarrassed to say that I only know and speak one language! Yes, I am filipino, but I can only say the bad words LOL. So what do I do to get by when I travel to different parts of the world, I have my handy dandy translator on my iPhone. I may not have perfect pronunciation, but at least I try to speak their language, and the locals really like that. When you visit different countries, I encourage you to learn the basic greetings such as: thank you, have a good day, hello, good bye, and where's the bathroom....that's important =)

9.  Maps.me - This is the best app when exploring the city on foot or hiking trails. It's amazing how this app can find small single tracks behind people's back yards. This is the ultimate off-the-beaten path app, google maps doesn't have nothing on this one. I once got lost in the Norwegian forest and guess who saved my life? This app!

10.  Beachbody on Demand - Ok this is not really a travel app, but I have to say that it is one of the most important apps while I travel because it helps me stay active and in shape during my back to back trips. With over $6,000 worth of online workouts, I can do everything from yoga on the beach to Insanity in the jungle, to P90X at the gym. This app is like the Netflix of fitness, how else can I be strong enough to hike strenuous mountains, chase top athletes when I'm filming endurance races, or run away from bandits who think I'm rich =)

In-Home Sandbag Workout - AKA Modified Fast and Furious Insanity Workout!

In-Home Sandbag Workout, Home Workouts, Fast and Furious Insanity Workout, Fast and Furious Workout Sheet, Beachbody on Demand Free Trial, Free Beachbody Workouts, Arnel Banawa

What's up guys!

I haven't posted a workout blog in awhile, so I'm excited to bring you this workout that I did a few days ago. As most of you all know, I have been doing Beachbody-Type Workouts for a little over 9 years now, and I absolutely love it. One of the best things that I love is the structure, because it works! What I enjoy even more is changing up the workouts to fit some of my goals. For example, you may not like all the movements in a particular Beachbody Workout, so that's not an issue, you can customize it to make it your own, and I do this all the time. Now if you are new and just starting out, it might be best to stick with the original program until you have gained some experience in proper form, and how to customize workouts for best results. With almost 10 years of doing Beachbody Workouts, I am a big fan of changing things up as long as it works the same muscle group or goal. This works exceptionally well for people who enjoy working out at the gym or outdoors!

Let's get into the workout. One of my favorite Beachbody Trainers is Shaun T, his workouts just kick my ass, and I love it! I also like the fact that a lot of his programs are geared towards athletes, and for what I do as an extreme sports filmmaker, it helps me when I'm out hauling my camera equipment up huge mountains, and chasing some of the fastest athletes in the world.

A lot of Shaun T workouts do not require weights, so what I like to do is "add weights" to certain exercises, and it really results in better performance for me. Now before you go and start adding weights to these workouts, please make sure that you know what you are doing, and consult your physician. I can assist with this, but before you speak with me, please do consult your doctor to find out what you can and can't do, its for your safety. =)
