Today's workout was Resistance 2, and it seems like my Dad and I have improved a lot since the first time that we did this workout. Definitely feel stronger, and although I didn't go as hard as I normally do, because I am still recovering from filming a 10+ mile brutal Spartan Race, I still felt pretty dang good.
David Magida and I - Asheville Spartan Super 2016
One thing that I wanted to mention is that when I was filming the Spartan Race in Asheville, NC this past weekend, my legs felt so strong climbing up the mountains, I was surprised how long I could go without stopping. Now going up is a lot differnet than going down the mountains, and my knees aren't the strongest because of a prior knee injury a couple years back, I also forgot my knee compression that I normally wear during the mountain races, so my knees began to pop again, so I had to go slow to ensure that I do not re-injure myself, which I did anyways...slightly =). It comes with the territory and something that I just have to be careful with as I film in some of the most remote and treacherous places on planet earth. I should be better prepared knowing that it's always a surprise at an obstacle race, you never know what the course will be like until you're out there.
a little Spartan Race reminder, don't complain about how TOUGH a race is,
just embrace the suck, and be prepared for anything.
I took it pretty slow for this workout, but like I mentioned before, I still felt strong and only modified about 20% of the time. At any rate, it's just another day in paradise =)
Day 1, Week Five - 22 Minute Hard Corps | Resistance 2
Woke up MEGA EARLY to get my workout done before my road trip to Asheville, NC to film a Spartan Race. Felt good to get it done early! I also went to the Rise of the Sufferfest OCR Documentary Screening, what a great film! A must see if you are an OCR ENTHUSIAST!
Scott Keneally - ROSF Screening, Asheville, NC
Summit Crossfit
FYI, this is a LATE POST (from last Friday), just playing catch up after filming the Asheville Spartan Super this past weekend, should be all caught up by tomorrow =) Here's my accountability video though! =) Thanks so much for following my journey!
Day 5, Week Four - 22 Minute Hard Corps | Special Ops Resistance
My Dad and I did Cardio 3 for the first time last night and the Cross Climbers and the Burpees got me this time =)
I am really enjoying 22 Minute Hard Corps, but I would have to say that it does help A TON to have a workout partner. My Dad and I keep each other accountable, and he makes me look forward to working out because I know that we can crack jokes during the workout. I admit, we sometimes have to stop the video to finish laughing, but hey, at least we're getting an extra AB WORKOUT right =)
Let me first tell you a story on how I became a believer in YOGA.
A few years ago, I used to be a competitive obstacle racer placing TOP 10 in my age group, and in some races, TOP 20 OVERALL. One of my downfalls when racing was the CRAMPING issue! I cramped all the time, and I hated it. I lost many races because of this issue, and I didn't know what to do about it. If you are an athlete, runner etc. you know exactly what I'm talking about =)
I did everything from trying to narrow down my nutrition, getting enough rest/recovery, buying potassium pills, eating bananas, hydration strategies, and a lot more, and guess what....I still cramped.
Cramping at a Spartan Race!
I had a friend named Jeffrey Bent, a fellow obstacle racer and yoga enthusiasts, just an all-round great guy! He kept on telling my that I needed yoga in my life, and I just consistently blew him off, not to his face or anything, I just didn't do it, or should I say, I didn't believe in it.
It wasn't until a year later, I was desperate for solutions, and I couldn't find any, so that's when I decided to do a 30 day yoga challenge, where I committed myself to doing 30 days of yoga. Yes, I repeat, 30 days of yoga =)
Exclusively on Beachbody on Demand
Geared toward Beginner Fitness Levels
Long story short, upon completion of my challenge, I traveled to Temecula, California to participate in a Spartan Super Race. I ended up doing the Spartan Sprint Race (5 miles) and the Spartan Super (8 miles) right after, with a total of almost 14 miles of obstacle racing that day, and guess what? I DIDN'T CRAMP ONE BIT =)
That was the day that I became a BELIEVER in YOGA.

WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?
I have been involved in the OCR industry since 2011, it was through P90X which my brother Fermin introduced me to, that I was introduced to the sport. I decided to do this referral type program for the following reasons:
- To share my passion for health and fitness
- To share my passion for the obstacle course racing industry
- To help raise awareness for charity through my OCRTUBE media project
- To help people understand that there are many training options for obstacle racing
- To rip people off the couch!
OCRTUBE.com is a cause-related media project focused on helping the sport of OCR grow while raising awareness for charity. I do this by traveling around the world on my own expense and filming obstacle course and adventure races.

My Dad and I got our 22 Minute Hard Corps Resistance 1 Workout done late. It was just one of those NON-STOP days =).
When I started working out and doing P90X back in 2010, I used to workout late at night and felt good, and now I actually prefer doing my workouts earlier. We did this workout last night, and during some parts of this workout, I just felt drained. There will be some days where you will just not have enough energy, and it might've been because of doing the workout late, or not fueling my body properly though out the day.
There are a few reasons that one might feel the lack of energy during their workouts, here are some of them: (check out the Beachbody Performance Stack for pre-workout and post recovery)
- Poor nutrition, or not enough calories though out the day
- Lack of rest, sleep, and recovery
- Dehydration - Negative people =)
I encourage you to make sure that you try to stay on point with the above. I know that it can be difficult depending on the circumstances, and not everyday will be the perfect day, but that's all part of the journey. It's also not just all about the workouts, that's only 20% of the journey.
Anyways, we all go through some tough times when trying to BETTER ourselves. Just remember that you are INSPIRING others whether you know this or not. By you working out and eating healthy, you are helping the people around you, so please keep doing what you are doing =)
If you ever need some extra fitness motivation, I can help, feel free to message me here!
