TRUE STORY

Today, like the many days leading up to this, I just wasn't feeling my workout. But when I came to a realization that I'm about to turn 50 this year, I said to myself, "I am not getting any younger!!!", and then I looked at my daughter like I have done many times with my first daughter Lauren as she was growing up, and then again I said, "I need to be healthy for her", and shortly after that, in 22 minutes, my workout was done!

Too many days, we make countless excuses to not get healthy when we know that it should be the #1 thing to do. It's just way too easy to walk away from it, and pretend that we have more important things to do, and trust me, I am very guilty of this.

The real truth is that nothing will be of importance if we are non-existent. Our health is the biggest investment that we can ever make in ourselves, and sometimes it just takes a little reminder like looking at your kids, and not forgetting the real reason for why we are all here. 

Today I was inspired by not only my daughters, but by my fiancĂ©, because she just flat out called me out, but not in a way that was deemed as forceful or mean, she just smiled and said, "we need to do this, so I'll go first". She is definitely a keeper!

Calculate Your Daily Caloric Needs - Harris Benedict Equation

Ever wonder why you are not losing weight, gaining enough mass, or don't have enough energy? It's most likely because you are not fueling your body with the correct amount of calories that your body needs. Now of course there are many factors that may come to play when discussing this topic, this is just an alternative option to help you pin point what may be the root cause of your inability to reach your health and fitness goals. Feel free to give the Harris Benedict Equation below a try, and as with anything, always listen to your body and adjust as needed.  

Harris Benedict Equation, which is what is employed by the INSANITY NUTRITION GUIDE.

STEP ONE:
FOR WOMEN, this equation is: 655 +(4.35 x weight)+(4.7 x height in inches)-(4.7 x age)

FOR MEN, this equation is:  66+(6.23 x weight)+(12.7 x height in inches)-(6.8 x age)

This formula determines your basal energy requirements, which is the energy required to maintain your current weight WITHOUT exercise. After completing this step, you'll add in your exercise level below:



STEP TWO: 
Take your number from above and multiply by the level of exercise listed below.
1.2 Sedentary Little to No Exercise
1.375 Lightly Active Light Exercise (1 to 3 days/week)
1.55 Moderately Active Moderate Exercise (3 to 5 days/week)
1.7 Very Active Hard Exercise (6 to 7 days/week)
1.9 Extremely Active Hard Daily Exercise and/or physical job

STEP THREE:
The number that you now have will tell you your calorie needs for weight maintenance, In step 3, you'll adjust this number up or down, depending on your weight loss or gain goals.

See below:
For weight loss, subtract 500 calories per day from your number in step 2.
For weight maintenance, do nothing, just use the number from step 2.
- For weight gain, add 250-300 calories per day to your number from step 2.

As I am writing about this, it is probably the worst time of the year for health and fitness. The holiday season is upon us and it seems like everyone is saving all of their hard earned cash to buy gifts for their friends and family, or having a fiesta buffet =) Hey, that's just how it goes for a lot of people, I get it because I've been there plenty of times! Actually, more than I'd like to admit!


So what the heck is this post about, "2 Million Bucks and.........." Well, I like to keep things really simple even though I am more of an analytical person, I always want the facts! So with that, I'm going to try to give you guys the simple facts about what this Beachbody Health Bet Challenge is all about, and how you can take advantage of it before and after the holiday season.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Well, the company Beachbody is betting over $2 million dollars that you and your friends will fall in love with getting healthy! During the challenge period which is January 9th - February 5th, 2017, eligible challengers who meet the requirements shown below will win an equal share of a $2 million+ prize pool. The company is putting up 2 million dollars plus a bonus of $5 per challenge pack sold from October 31st - December 31st 2016, so the prize pool will actually be way above the seeded $2 million dollars, up to $3 million smackers!!

HOW DO I QUALIFY?
It's really easy, just follow the requirements below:

-  You must be a participant in an active Challenge Group via mobile app hosted by your Coach (that's me!!) during the Challenge Period.

-  Participants must have a valid First and Last Name, email address, and shipping address on record with their Team Beachbody account. (Get a Free Team Beachbody Membership here, or contact me here to find this best option for you for the Health Bet)

We Are 22 Minute Hard Corps Challenge GRADS!

So today my father and I completed 60 days of the 22 Minute Hard Corps Challenge. That's eight straight weeks of military-inspired boot camp workouts and clean eating along with Shakeology.

This was the first challenge that I've done with my Dad, and I would have to say that I enjoyed every minute of it. We kept each other motivated even during our bad days. We kept each other accountable when we started to feel burnt out and tired. We worked out through some of my minor injuries in which I had to modify at least 3-4 workouts. I traveled a bunch during our 60 day challenge, but worked out in hotels, gyms, parks, and even in other peoples homes. We just didn't make any excuses, we just got it done. Was it tough, heck yeah! Do we feel amazing? ABSOLUTELY!

Here are some of my Dad's results:
- He lost 10lbs
- Lost almost 2 inches off his waist
- He went from only doing 10 push ups to 25 push ups
- He went from no pull ups to 3 pull ups
- He has gained better endurance, and the functionality of the movements has helped him become more productive with his restaurant
- His craving for junk food has diminished immensely
- He has created new habits for clean eating
- The completion of this challenge has boosted his self-confidence
- He feels young again!

Not bad for being 71 years young!

Here is what I took away from the challenge:
- I gained 5 lbs of lean muscle mass
- My core is much stronger, I managed to get some of my abs back, still need more work on the lower portion =)
- I went from 15 pull ups to 22 strict, I think I can do more now =) This is post injury.
- My legs are more defined and stronger especially during mountain climbing and running
- I am back on point with my daily workouts since coming back from Europe for almost 3 months
- Nutrition is back on point
- Endurance level is almost back to race performance
- I am ready for the next challenge!

Day 1, Week Six - 22 Minute Hard Corps | Resistance 1

WAHOO!!! Week 6 is finally here =)

Today's workout was Resistance 1 and my niece even decided to join us, and she did amazing! I think the toughest part of the workout was the pull ups and of course the BURNOUT round at the end with the Sprint, Burpee, Push Ups.


Here's the thing, this 22 Minute Hard Corps Challenge is a 60 day program, and it is pretty impossible to maintain 100% of your energy and strength for that amount of time. So today was one of those days where I had to tone it down a bit and listen to my body. Don't get me wrong, I still pushed myself to the limits, but I also know that if I do not pace myself, I could either get injured, become overtrained, or even discouraged, and I do not want that to happen. NO WAY!

So if you are doing a challenge, or any type of workout, it doesn't have to be a set program or anything like that, I would recommend that you always make a point to listen to your body and put your ego aside, and keep it safe. In my experience, you will get better results, and will also have a more enjoyable time working out =)

Day 3, Week Four - 22 Minute Hard Corps | Resistance 1

My Dad and I got our 22 Minute Hard Corps Resistance 1 Workout done late. It was just one of those NON-STOP days =).

When I started working out and doing P90X back in 2010, I used to workout late at night and felt good, and now I actually prefer doing my workouts earlier. We did this workout last night, and during some parts of this workout, I just felt drained. There will be some days where you will just not have enough energy, and it might've been because of doing the workout late, or not fueling my body properly though out the day.

There are a few reasons that one might feel the lack of energy during their workouts, here are some of them: (check out the Beachbody Performance Stack for pre-workout and post recovery)

- Poor nutrition, or not enough calories though out the day
- Lack of rest, sleep, and recovery
- Dehydration
- Negative people =)

I encourage you to make sure that you try to stay on point with the above. I know that it can be difficult depending on the circumstances, and not everyday will be the perfect day, but that's all part of the journey. It's also not just all about the workouts, that's only 20% of the journey.

Anyways, we all go through some tough times when trying to BETTER ourselves. Just remember that you are INSPIRING others whether you know this or not. By you working out and eating healthy, you are helping the people around you, so please keep doing what you are doing =)

MOUNTAIN SQUATS SUCK! (Day 1, Week Four - 22 Minute Hard Corps)

We finally made it to WEEK FOUR of our 22 Minute Hard Corps Challenge! Today's workout was RESISTANCE 3, and it was the first time that my Dad and I did this workout, and it was pretty challenging! Don't you hate it when something looks easy, but it really isn't! =)

When I was watching the Resistance 3 Workout video earlier, it didn't look that difficult, especially the MOUNTAIN SQUATS, but watching and DOING are two totally different things =)

At any rate, we got it done, and Day 1, Week Four is in the books!

My Dad and I could not believe how difficult the Mountain Squats were, so we just kept laughing for some reason, it was pretty hilarious, and although it doesn't look like we got a lot accomplished, our bodies can tell you otherwise =) Watch the second video below!

Day 7, Week Three - 22 Minute Hard Corps | Resistance 2

I took a REST DAY on Saturday so that I could workout on Sunday with my father. Although it was a challenge to get my workouts in during Beachbody Coach Summit, I was still able to do so because of the duration of the workouts. 22 Minute Hard Corps workouts are only 22 minutes long, which means that I can get it in, get it done, and go on with the rest of the day.

My brother and I left the Coach Summit event right after the Celebration (last event of the jam-packed weekend) and we drove about 5-6 hours back home. We arrived early Sunday morning and I just crashed!! Coach Summit in Nashville was an amazing event, and I had the most memorable time with my team, but it was NON-STOP, so when I hit my bed on Sunday, I was out like a light!

When I finally woke up, my father was ready to workout, so what did we do, WE GOT IT DONE! =)

Today's workout (July 29th, Friday, this is a late post) was CARDIO 1 + CORE 1.

It was pretty challenging to do my workouts during the Coach Summit Weekend events, but my coach team kept me accountable and even worked out with me to make sure that I got it done, now isn't that just amazing =)

In between Coach Summit Workshops at the Music City Center, we found a somewhat secluded spot to do a quick 32 minute workout (Cardio 1 is 22 minutes, Core 1 is 10 minutes). We felt right at home because the people who were all passing us by were also Beachbody Coaches, so they knew the dealio!

I really encourage doing a Beachbody Challenge, or any fitness challenge with someone who has similar goals as you, and will not let you quit. This will be a life saver on your BAD DAYS when you are feeling lazy and don't want to workout. Thankfully, I have a team of coaches, as well as an amazing online accountability group to keep pushing me. Although I've been working out for years now, I still have my not-so-good days, and it does help to have people around you who won't let you quit. If you need that, feel free to message me, I'd love to help you, just like people have done for me!

Day 4, Week Three - 22 Minute Hard Corps

It was officially Day 1 of Coach Summit today and what a PRODUCTIVE day it was! Here I am posting this blog and it is 12 midnight (the next day) and I've been going strong for more than 15 hours, WHOA!!

So I don't want to bore you on all the things that I did today, but hey.....I did my 22 Minute Hard Corps workout (and so did my Dad), and that's what counts right =) Today's workout was RESISTANCE 2 and I was able to get it in between my Coach Summit activities. One of my fellow coaches on my team went with me to the Downtown Nashville YMCA, and that is where we got it done! =) Btw, the Downtown Nashville YMCA was an amazing facility complete with more than you can ask for, I could've spent all day in that place! If you are ever in Nashville, and you need a place to workout, I highly recommend checking it out. The day pass fee was $15 per person and well worth it.

Before the workout though, I met up with a few hundred people from our Coach Team and we did a group photo shoot at the Hilton Downtown Nashville. I've been going to Coach Summit since 2011, and I cannot tell you how exciting it is to see our team continue to grow in record numbers. From 5 coaches in 2010, to over 80,000 coaches today, it's just crazy!

What's On My Facebook?

I've visited Boston a few times, and it is one of my all time FAVORITE historical cities to visit in the USA. Lot's of American Past-Times, and unless you were born under a rock, most of the world knows that FACEBOOK was founded just a hop, skip, and a jump away in neighboring Cambridge, MA at the prestigious Harvard University. What a brilliant dude, that Mark Zuckerburg!

Where Facebook was born

I took my family to Cambridge last year, and I gave them a little tour of the campus. Just walking around, and bumping into SMART ASS (no really, they're pretty smart ha ha) students, who some of them may one day create "million to billion dollar enterprises", it just mesmerizes me.

My family and I ate at Mr. Bartley's near Harvard Square, it's a cash-only local burger joint with entree names originating from unique Instagram hash tags, pretty cool! This place is definitely a "must-eat" place if you are taking a break from your health, nutrition and fitness regime =) That's why I was there, I was taking a break LOL.

As my tattooed server whipped around the corner to serve me my big fat burger, I was already planning to take a photo to share on my Facebook. As I was trying to take this gastronomic photo of this MASSIVE creation of awesome sauce, I was also multi-tasking and being strategic on what my caption would be before actually posting it for the whole world to see! Wait a minute....should I even be sharing this on my Facebook timeline as a Beachbody Coach...I mean, aren't I an online fitness coach? Well, YES I AM =)

What might my friends and customers think of me? Will I be labeled as some sort of hypocrite for promoting a healthy and fit lifestyle, while posting a gigantic burger similar to the size of the TITANIC?!?!

Wait it minute, it's my Facebook page, and this is how I relate to people. I am not PERFECT, and neither do I represent myself as someone who doesn't make mistakes (or cheats on a meal every once in awhile). This is what I was thinking about when I was portraying myself as an iPhone Food-Spotting paparazzi guy, and asking THEE question......should I post this or not?

NEVER, NEVER POST NEGATIVITY, ONLY RELATABILITY 

I can't really remember what I decided to do, but as someone who has built a small fitness-related internet company primarily through social media and Facebook, it's sometimes difficult to know what to post, and what not to post, all of this... from a business stand point, and protecting a brand.

If you do not own a business, then you probably won't even understand where I am coming from, let alone care about what I'm even talking about, and that's ok too =)  I mean, if I didn't have an online business, my Facebook page would probably be a lot more private and only open to close friends and family. It took me awhile to open my life with people online. I'm naturally a very private person, and I'm pretty sure that a lot of you could relate, BUT  "get this"... anyone who has a business, with the intentions of being successful, it is almost a requirement to incorporate Facebook/social media into everyday business marketing strategies. Am I right?


As I started learning more about social media, and the power behind running a business using Facebook, things began to open up for me, but now it was all about juggling groups, LIKE pages, and those annoying group chats, I absolutely hate those group chats, stop adding me please =).

GETTING TO THE POINT
Since building my brand as a Beachbody Coach and Online Entrepreneur, I have grown from managing my main profile page to multiple Facebook pages. It was MASS CONFUSION in the beginning because I didn't know where to post certain things, when to post, and how to post. Again, this is from a business standpoint with emphasis on building a brand built based on integrity, and long term success.

I have since been able to learn how to categorize my pages and target the posts to each specific niche. So right now, you're probably really confused, sorry about that, no not really sorry, I had to learn all of this too =)

BUT HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON MY FACEBOOK:

- MAIN FACEBOOK PAGE, this is as personal as I get on social media. On my main profile page, I share the five things that I am very passionate about: family, fitness, entrepreneurship, obstacle racing, and travel. This is the BEST place to get to know me, other than coming to one of my family reunions or coach retreats. If you ever do come to one of those, I promise that you can try some of my parents authentic filipino cuisine, that's only if my Mom likes you =).

Within those 5 passions, I narrow it down even more to just Family, Beachbody health and fitness, and Travel.

- MAIN COACH PAGE, this is where I mostly share my health, fitness, and wealth-building related posts, as well as some motivational and inspirational quotes. If you want more of this type of content, I highly encourage you to follow my blog here since that is the main source for the shares on this page.

- OCRTUBE MEDIA PROJECT, this is about 100% obstacle course racing. This page is dedicated to my cause-related media project, making a difference, and also where I share other content from other reputable sources within the obstacle racing industry.
